Free Upgrade to Windows 7 with New HP Laptops

It wasn’t the least bit unexpected, but now the manufacturers are starting to issue free upgrades to Windows 7 when you buy a new system with Windows Vista. As expected, laptop manufacturers will start shipping computers with Windows 7 right after the release of the final version. This is great news for netbook, as the Windows 7 beta versions have proven that the new operating system runs much better on the lower-end hardware found in the immensely popular mini laptop computers, compared to the bloated and resource-intensive Windows Vista.

Customers who buy a new PC from HP will get a free upgrade to Windows 7 starting now up until the 7’s upcoming release on October 22nd. It’s not entirely clear which purchases qualify for these upgrades and which ones don’t, but you can visit http://www.hp.com/go/windows7upgrade to find out if your laptop qualifies.

In the recent HP press release concerning the matter, the company rants about the extensive collaboration with Microsoft that has taken place prior to the new OS release to make sure all PCs comply with specs and so forth. However, Windows 7 is a derivative of Vista with (almost) full driver compatibility, so it’s safe to say that any computer that runs Vista should do fine with the new Microsoft OS.
